Sin embargo, la desertificación, entendida como el proceso de pérdida de la productividad de las tierras en las zonas áridas y secas, no ha sido reconocido sino hasta hace pocos años como un problema ambiental de importancia nacional que requiere el desarrollo de un programa nacional bajo el esquema del desarrollo sustentable, mediante el cual se ataque de una forma integral a sus causas.

However, desertification, understood as the process of loss of land productivity in arid and dry areas, has not been recognized until a few years ago as an environmental problem of national importance that requires the development of a national program under the scheme of sustainable development, through which its causes are attacked in an integral way.
