Please provide a description of the pledge | In 2019 Portugal developed and adopted a National Plan for the Implementation of the Global Compact on Migration. This document reinforces the recognition, by the Portuguese authorities, of the importance of promoting legal pathways for safe and orderly migration, closely linked to strong integration measures. Recognizing that achieving the 23 objectives outlined in the both the GCM and the National Plan requires a whole-of-government and whole-of society approaches, including the experience and expertise of local authorities and civil society, Portugal pledges to undertake the necessary actions to actively engage with local authorities and civil society by: a) Promoting the dissemination of the National Plan among civil society and local authorities; b) Raise awareness throughout civil society and local authorities about the National Plan, its objectives and measures; c) Promote sharing of good practices; d) Highlighting the contribution of migrants to society and to sustainable development. |
