Youth Policy Brief for Europe & North America

The Migration Youth & Children Platform (MYCP) has produced a collective Youth Policy Brief outlining youth recommendations on key migration challenges across Europe & North America (in line with the UNECE Regional Review). Youth priorities in the region were identified to be; education (GCM Objectives 15 & 16), trafficking in persons (GCM Objective 9 & 10), labour exploitation (GCM Objective 6), regular pathways (GCM Objective 5), and alternatives to immigration detention (GCM Objective 13).

Following a Youth Policy Survey, and inputs by grassroots youth organisation, and partners, key youth recommendations for Member States in the UNECE region are:

1. A more comprehensive approach to education, ensuring equitable access and success within education systems.

2. Recognise foreign qualifications and invest in youth training schemes. Work with the private sector to increase productive jobs & combat exploitation.

3. Commit to a whole-of-society approach, working with youth, civil society and intergovernmental organisations to dismantle exploitation rings which lead to trafficking of young migrants.

4. Expand safe and legal migration routes, putting human dignity at the centre.

5. End child immigration detention, and allow access to basic services for youth on the move.
