Explore the Regional Reviews of the Arab Region

The 2024 Regional Review in the Arab Region provides Member States and stakeholders an opportunity to assess their progress in implementing the objectives and guiding principles of the Global Compact for Migration, with a particular focus on regional collaboration and dialogue.  

The following Member States are invited to the Regional Review in Cairo in July: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.  

July’s meeting is being organized around six priority issues identified during the first round of Regional Reviews in the Arab Region in early 2021 (Outcome Document)  

• Expanding regular migration pathways and reducing irregular migration   

• Ensuring that migrants have the right to access basic services   

• Protecting and empowering migrant workers and operationalizing their role in the sustainable development process in countries of origin and destination   

• Respecting the human rights of all migrants, especially the most vulnerable   

• Strengthening national, bilateral, regional and international cooperation   

• Providing detailed, timely and available data

A Multi-stakeholder Consultation will be hosted the day prior to the Conference, and the high-level panel on regular pathways will be the first plenary session of the Regional Review Conference. In May, the UN Network on Migration also conducted a online thematic consultation series covering the above six key priorities to collect inputs from stakeholders for the background paper development. 

Five Regional Reviews are held every four years. As part of the 2024/25 series, a Regional Review was carried out in the UN Economic Commission for Europe in March 2024. Further Reviews are scheduled in Africa (October), Latin America and the Caribbean (March), and Asia and the Pacific in early 2025.
