Preparedness for the Next Pandemic: Towards a Resilient Global Architecture on Borders and Health
Over two years since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down cross-border mobility, most countries are rapidly re-opening for travel. Yet there has been no global stock-taking on whether border and mobility policies worked in reducing the spread of the virus. Instead, a complex web of border closures and travel measures continues to chill mobility, and risks creating a two-tiered system between people able to travel (vaccinated and wealthy, with access to testing and digital tools), and those excluded from entry. This event will cover promising initiatives and areas for cooperation on borders and health, with a view toward preparing for future public-health crises.
