Ekaterina Golovko is an independent consultant and researcher working on migration and security in West Africa. She has previously worked for MMC West Africa, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, IFRC Sahel Cluster, and other organizations. She has authored among others a research paper “Navigating borderlands in the Sahel Border security governance and mixed migration in Liptako-Gourma” (jointly with Luca Raineri) and a briefing paper “Players of many parts: The evolving role of smugglers in West Africa’s migration economy”.

Dr. Shelene Gomes is an Anthropologist who specialises in research, training and advocacy on social inclusion in migratory contexts, migrant networks, female labour migration, remittances, gender and development, gender-based violence, multiculturalism and diversity, and workplace discrimination. Over 10 years of professional experience includes university teaching, research, outreach and consulting with institutions in the Caribbean, Eastern and Southern Africa.

Kristel is a PhD student and a recipient of the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship at the
Institute for Sociological Research, University of Geneva. She is also a registered social worker in the Philippines. Her research is interdisciplinary, focusing on life course, gender, migrants, health, and crisis, using mixed methods.
With over 10 years of professional practice in the field of gender mainstreaming in the Philippines,
Kristel brings a wealth of experience to her research, academic, and professional pursuits.

I am a postdoctoral researcher at Kadir Has University on the project "The Role of Social Interaction in the Desecuritization of Syrians in Turkey". I completed my Ph.D. in Migration Studies at Düzce University in 2023. My dissertation entitled "Seeking Refuge through Marriage: Marriage Experiences of Syrian Women Refugees in Turkey," examines the marriage and survival experiences of Syrian women who married Turkish citizens after forced migration from Syria.

I am currently an Erasmus Mundus student doing my second year of Master entitled "Transnational Migrations". I am very interested in immigrants settled abroad, more specifically individuals coming from South America. I have studied the Peruvian population in Brussels focusing on cultural transmission and identity formation and am currently studying the role of the church in the integration process of South American immigrants living in Wroclaw (Poland).

Lana Gonzalez Balyk is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Waterloo, Ontario. Her broad research interests include forced migration, transnationalism and migration, gender and migration, focusing on refugee community building, migrant community building, refugee governance, and migration policy.

Lana’s Ph.D. dissertation is influenced by intersectional feminism and transnationalism and focuses on women’s refugee community building in Portugal. Her research explores the impact of refugee governance policies and practices on the lived experiences of refugee women living in Portugal, with the purpose of informing refugee governance policies and practices. Furthermore, she aims to illustrate the actions large and small that refugee women take to become active participants in their resettlement in Portugal.

Prior to her studies, Lana engaged in contract work for the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, held the position of Refugee Case Manager for an Immigration Consultant, and worked as an English as a Second Language Teacher. Prior to this, she worked as a Program Manager for a micro-finance organization in Nicaragua, People Helping People Global (PHPG), and as a research assistant for the Centre for Mediation, Peace and Resolution of Conflict (CEMPROC) in Ecuador.

She previously completed her MA in Human Security and Peace building at Royal Roads University in Victoria, a program concentrated on international development and human rights. Before that, she completed her BA in History at the University of Calgary, where she focused on Latin American History. She attended a field school in Uganda, focusing on refugee studies, and an archeology field school in Mexico.

Lana is fluent in Spanish and speaks intermediate-level Portuguese.
