I am a post-​doctoral researcher working on forced migration and integration. Since fall 2015, I have been contributing to the Displaced Persons in Austria Survey (DiPAS), one of the first European studies on the human capital of refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Refugee Health and Integration Survey (ReHIS) on refugees’ health access and mental health. I am affiliated with the Wittgenstein Center for Demography and Global Human Capital (IIASA, VID / ÖAW, WU) and teach at the University of Vienna and the University of Applied Sciences for Management & Communication. Besides my academic work, I regularly publish in the Austrian weekly FALTER and serve on the board of the Schumpeter Society Vienna.

My most current research project, the Women’s Integration Survey (WIN): Inclusion, Participation and Enablement of Refugee Women in Austria (2019-​2021), explored gendered pathways of social, economic and cultural integration.

At the moment I study the situation of Nordic migrants living in London during the Brexit process. In addition, I am an expert in research finance and project planning.

Gizem KOLBAŞI MUYAN is working at the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities as an expert since 2011. She gave lectures on iimmigrant integration and diaspora studies at the Departments of International Relations and Sociology, METU as a guest lecturers between 2018-2020. She had her Ph.D. at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2017 with her thesis titled “Interactions between Family Reunification and Integration: Marriages of Second Generation Turkish Dutch from Turkey”. She received her bachelors in International Relations from METU and had her master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratization at the University of Malta, Faculty of Law with the European Commission scholarship. Her main areas of interest are immigrant integration, family reunification, diaspora studies, transnationalism, citizenship, EU law, Turkey-EU Assocation Law, EU migration policy, governance of migration at the national and international level, human rights law, interdisciplinary researches and qualitative research methods.

About the Migration Network Hub

What is the Migration Network Hub?

The Hub is a virtual “meeting space” where governments, stakeholders and experts can access and share migration-related information and services. It provides curated content, analysis and information on a variety of topics.

The Hub aims to support UN Member States in the implementation, follow-up and review of the Global Compact for Migration by serving as a repository of existing evidence, practices and initiatives, and facilitating access to knowledge sharing via online discussions, an expert database and demand-driven, tailor-made solutions (launching in 2021).

What content is displayed in the Hub?

The Hub aims to help you find information on migration, ranging from policy briefs and journal articles, existing portals and platforms and what they offer, to infographics and videos. The different types of resources submitted by users undergo peer review by a panel of experts from within the UN and beyond, before being approved for inclusion in the Hub. To provide guidance to users based on findings of the needs assessment, the content is ordered so that more comprehensive and global resources are shown before more specific and regional ones.
