Lela Goginava - is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Education, specializing in Education Sciences, at the East European University (EEU). Additionally, she holds the position of Director of the Center for Migration and Diaspora Studies (CMDS) at the Grigol Robakidze University of Georgia. She has obtained MA degrees in Peace Studies, Philosophy, and Journalism. Currently, Lela Goginava is pursuing her PhD as a student in the Joint Program on Educational Sciences between East European University and Middlesex University (London), with a research focus on identity and heritage language studies in Georgian diaspora communities. She serves as a Co-leader of WG3 of the COST network WEMov (CA19112), an MC member of COST Action TraFaDy (CA 21143), and a member of WG3 and WG5 of COST Action HIDDEN (CA21120). Before her academic career, Lela Goginava served as a Career Diplomat for 21 years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (1996 - 2017). Additionally, she held the position of Deputy to the Permanent Representation of Georgia to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, from 2007 to 2010.

His scholarly interests include international migration, ethnic economies, ethnic community development, qualitative field methods and visual sociology. Gold is the author, co-author, editor, or co-editor of nine books including The Israeli Diaspora (Routledge/University of Washington Press 2002) which won the Thomas and Znaniecki Award from the ASA’s International Migration Section for the best book on international migration in 2003. His book Ethnic Economies, co-authored with Ivan Light of UCLA, has received 1496 Google Scholar citations. The chair of 22 PhD dissertations and author of over 150 journal articles, book chapters, and book reviews, Gold received the Charles Horton Cooley Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Sociology from the Michigan Sociology Association in 2007 and was a Visiting Scholar for the Erasmus Mundus Joint European Master’s in International Migration and Social Cohesion program at the University of Amsterdam and University of Osnabruck during Fall 2014. He received the Distinguished Career Award from the American Sociological Association, International Migration Section in 2019.

About the Migration Network Hub

What is the Migration Network Hub?

The Hub is a virtual “meeting space” where governments, stakeholders and experts can access and share migration-related information and services. It provides curated content, analysis and information on a variety of topics.

The Hub aims to support UN Member States in the implementation, follow-up and review of the Global Compact for Migration by serving as a repository of existing evidence, practices and initiatives, and facilitating access to knowledge sharing via online discussions, an expert database and demand-driven, tailor-made solutions (launching in 2021).

What content is displayed in the Hub?

The Hub aims to help you find information on migration, ranging from policy briefs and journal articles, existing portals and platforms and what they offer, to infographics and videos. The different types of resources submitted by users undergo peer review by a panel of experts from within the UN and beyond, before being approved for inclusion in the Hub. To provide guidance to users based on findings of the needs assessment, the content is ordered so that more comprehensive and global resources are shown before more specific and regional ones.
