Introduction
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), signed in 2018, called for the establishment of a capacity building mechanism. Through this, the UN, its Member States and other relevant stakeholders, contribute technical, financial and human resources towards strengthening capacity for improved migration governance. To support this mechanism, the European Union (EU) and the Network signed a partnership in October 2020.
Programme objectives
The Building Migration Partnerships (BMP) programme facilitates UN-wide expertise to help countries develop, implement and monitor safe, orderly and regular migration policy frameworks.
The programme will:
- Bolster the capacity of the UN system at global, regional and country level to provide system-wide support to governments
to action GCM commitments. - Empower public authorities and relevant stakeholders
at regional, country and local levels to align policy frameworks with GCM commitments.
This partnership for migration and mobility will provide tailored capacity building - both for UN Country Teams and governments.
