Diaspora Inclusion: Harnessing the potential of the African diasporain sustainable development

Diaspora engagement has generated increasing political interest in recent years. It has been explicitly included in the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in Objective 19: “Create conditions for migrants and diasporas to fully contribute to sustainable development in all countries”, as well as in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which recognizes that migration is a powerful driver of sustainable development, for migrants and their communities.

This joint dossier by IOM, Partos and The Broker features a series of articles, written by diaspora professionals and entrepreneurs, exploring the issue of diaspora inclusion. The dossier illustrates how diaspora engagement can maximize the positive relationships between migration and development. Diaspora expertise, cultural affinity, and strong commitment can make them very effective humanitarian actors in crisis situations, entrepreneurs in business, international experts, as well as excellent agents for human and economic development.
