My research interests lie in how migration and processes of social categorization and stratification connect. In my PhD project I explored this nexus by studying the care work market in Spain and its connection to Bolivian transnational migration, and I am now focusing on how values and norms are negotiated and circulated within the migration and 'integration' field in Sweden. I am a social anthropologist by training and work mostly ethnographically, with participant observation and interviews.

Dr. Rakesh Ranjan is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Development Practice and Research, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Takshila Campus, Patna. He has been working on international labour migration, remittances, Diaspora and immigrant entrepreneurship for the past eight years. He has worked with the India Centre for Migration, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and the Global Research Forum on Diaspora and Transnationalism, New Delhi. He also had brief stints at the Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore and the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum. Rakesh has recently co-authored a book with Prof. Md Mizanur Rahman on "Indian Diaspora Homeland Engagement: Education and Healthcare Sector", published by Oxford University Press.
