Yowali Kabamba has been a PhD candidate in Economic and Social History at Utrecht University since October 2023. She studies the labour integration of Somali migrant women in Western Europe and how home and host country contexts influence their sustainable economic participation. Farjana Kabir is a multi-disciplinary artist and freelancer pursuing her PhD (year Four) in Theatre and Performance Studies at Warwick University. Originally from Bangladesh, she moved to the UK a decade ago and has since dedicated herself to various arts-based projects in both urban and rural communities in the UK. Her projects aim to empower individuals and communities, fostering long-term social change. In the UK, she has focused on using theatre and film to support refugees and migrants, seeking to create a more equitable and inclusive world. Farjana Kabir is particularly passionate about exploring the transformative power of theatre and its potential for positive social impact.

She is also a pursuing a professional doctorate in counselling psychology with the University of East London with research looking at the impact of structural disempowerment within the asylum process on the mental health and wellbeing of asylum seekers. She is Vice President of the Independent Monitoring Board for Gatwick immigration detention centres and Chair of the Take Action Group, a group linked with MSF UK working on issues confronting migrants and refugees in the UK.

About the Migration Network Hub
What is the Migration Network Hub?
The Hub is a virtual “meeting space” where governments, stakeholders and experts can access and share migration-related information and services. It provides curated content, analysis and information on a variety of topics.
The Hub aims to support UN Member States in the implementation, follow-up and review of the Global Compact for Migration by serving as a repository of existing evidence, practices and initiatives, and facilitating access to knowledge sharing via online discussions, an expert database and demand-driven, tailor-made solutions (launching in 2021).

What content is displayed in the Hub?
The Hub aims to help you find information on migration, ranging from policy briefs and journal articles, existing portals and platforms and what they offer, to infographics and videos. The different types of resources submitted by users undergo peer review by a panel of experts from within the UN and beyond, before being approved for inclusion in the Hub. To provide guidance to users based on findings of the needs assessment, the content is ordered so that more comprehensive and global resources are shown before more specific and regional ones.
