Cat Gargano is a Phd student in Clinical Psychology and Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, where she is part of the Building Resilience After Violence Exposure (BRAVE) lab. Her research focuses on migration and mental health, with a particular emphasis on transit contexts. She focuses on migration governance policies and mental health outcomes, adapting MHPSS interventions for transit, social-ecological risk and resilience factors, and intergenerational trauma linked to migration or interpersonal violence. Adele Garnier's research investigates the interplay of regulatory levels (local to global) in migration and refugee policy in a comparative perspective, with a current focus on refugees' participation in the labour market, the governance of refugee resettlement and the local integration of international students. She has published in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Refuge, Brussels Studies, the Journal for the Academic Study of Religion and am the co-editor of Refugee Resettlement: Power, Politics and Humanitarian Governance (with Liliana Lyra Jubilut and Kristin Bergtora Sandvik, Berghahn Books, 2018).

She holds a PhD in Politics from Macquarie University and the University of Leipzig, Germany (2012) and have done postdoctoral research at the Interuniversity Research Centre on Globalization and Work (CRIMT), Université de Montréal, Canada (2015-2016) and the Group for Research on Ethnic Relations, Migration and Equality (GERME), Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium (2016-2017).

I am a PhD researcher at the Center for Sociological Research (CeSO) of KU Leuven. My research focuses on the nexus between gender, migration, and resistance. In particular, I seek to observe women’s forms of resistance within the context of reception. Previously, I did a MA in applied communication (IHECS) and a MA of specialisation in Gender Studies (UCLouvain). Alongside, from 2020 to early 2023, I worked as a social worker and coordinator of a reception facility in Brussels, the Sisters’ House, providing accommodation, information, and accompaniment for women on the move facing homelessness.

My research centers on the anthropology of forced migration, development, and time in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Jordan. I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Sheffield Institute for Global Sustainable Development, conducting participatory action research on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Za'tari camp for the GCRF-funded project, COVID-19 PPE & Refugees. I also consult on development programs across the Middle East.
