PLEDGING INITIATIVE

100 days to the IMRF – briefing to the Member States of the UN ECE region

Three years after its adoption, the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) is part of our international architecture. The Governments of Azerbaijan, Luxemburg and Portugal are committed to its advancement and hereby wish to make a pledge underscoring our leadership also as GCM “Champion Countries”.

In response to the call by the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Abulla Shahid, the Coordinator of the United Nations Network on Migration, Mr Antonio Vitorino, and the Principals of the Network's Executive Committee, our Pledge is to bring together the 56 member states of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region, through a virtual event on the 1st of February 2022, for a dedicated briefing on the road to the IMRF, marking 100 days prior to this first-ever landmark review forum.

The briefing is intended to ensure the Member States in the UNECE region are informed on the most up-to-date information and processes leading to the IMRF, as well as the various tools and resources which may help Member States in their preparations for this first review of the GCM.
