PLEDGING INITIATIVE

Follow-up Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) assessment

In 2020, we developed a Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) profile of Iraq, with support of IOM. It is based on a standard set of approximately 90 indicators that assess migration policies. We identified good practices as well as areas with potential for further development that offered valuable insights and contributed to the evidence base for the development of the National Migration Management Strategy.

We pledge to conduct a follow-up MGI assessment in 2023 using the same indicators to systematically track and evaluate progress in addressing the identified gaps. This will provide an overview of the implementation status of the National Migration Management Strategy and the GCM.

LAST UPDATED: 21/02/2024

With IOM support we are pleased to announce that we have fulfilled our pledge to conduct a follow-up Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) assessment in October 2023. The assessment was conducted by using the same set of indicators as the original assessment, and it provides a comprehensive overview of the progress that has been made in addressing the gaps identified in the initial assessment. The assessment also highlights the achievements of the National Migration Management Strategy and the Global Compact for Migration (GCM). Adding to this the Durable Solutions Annex become part of the updated 2023 Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) in Iraq.
