Scaling-up anticipatory action

TENTATIVE DEADLINE OF IMPLEMENTATION:
Climate change causes increasing extreme weather events that make a paradigm shift in providing humanitarian assistance necessary. Instead of alleviating the impacts of disasters, humanitarian assistance needs to enhance earliest possible disaster prevention and preparation for unavoidable disasters. Germany commits to scale up and mainstream anticipatory action and to contribute towards mainstreaming anticipatory action throughout the humanitarian system. An aim in the field of anticipatory action is for example to strengthen innovative attempts and tools for anticipatory funding, like “Forecast-based Financing”. In 2022 Germany commits to a contribution of approx. 60 million EUR for anticipatory action; in 2023, 100 million EUR will be invested into anticipatory action. Germany is further committed to work in partnership with the UN family to strengthen anticipatory action in the humanitarian response to migration and displacement.
