Supporting regular migration pathways for safe and orderly migration, and to deter irregular migration
To promote safe and orderly migration through strengthened regular pathways, Canada has pledged to support several capacity building projects in the Americas. These projects will support the socio-economic and labour market integration of refugees and migrants in host countries, strengthen regional certification schemes and skills development centers, and strengthen fair recruitment practices.
At the 2022 IMRF, Canada pledged to support:
1) The International Labour Organization’s project to increase fair recruitment practices and economic integration into the local labour markets of refugees and migrants in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras as well as supporting regional coordination on the socio economic integration of migrants and refugees.
2) The International Organization for Migration’s project to enhance Costa Rica’s capacity to integrate migrants and asylum seekers into local communities, including through supporting regular pathways to access employment opportunities, such as temporary labour options.
3) The International Labour Organization’s project supporting Colombia’s and Panama’s vocational training institutions in strengthening their capacities, particularly their skills certification and prior learning recognition process, and Colombia’s and Panama’s Public Employment Services in adapting their services to refugees and migrants.
