Updating the Voluntary Report of Azerbaijan on the Implementation of the Global Compact on Migration submitted in 2020

In pursuit of paragraph 53 of the GCM, Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan prepared and submitted its Regional Review Report on implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in 2020. Azerbaijan has followed the guidance and used the template recommended by UNNM Secretariat during the Regional review and voluntarily submitted the review results. The report has been appraised by GCM Team as it was reflecting the developments on each GCM objective which was useful in terms of observing the progress over 23 GCM objectives separately.

Towards IMRF 2022 Azerbaijan pledges to submit updated National Voluntary Review Report on implementation of GCM by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The feeding information will be consolidated from the sources and records of State Migration Service (SMS) and other related state agencies involved in migration issues, as well as from Public Council under SMS, some other civil society organizations which are indirectly involved in migration related issues and from academia and migrant community.

Azerbaijan was among the first countries in the region to present National Voluntary Review Report on GCM and update it. In 2020, within the framework of cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan prepared and submitted its Regional Review Report on implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration during 2018-2020. Azerbaijan has followed the guidance and used the template recommended by UNNM Secretariat during the Regional review and voluntarily submitted the review results. The report has been appraised by GCM Team as it was reflecting the developments on each GCM objective which was useful in terms of observing the progress over 10 core principles and 23 GCM objectives separately.

In January 2022, the SMS jointly with Representation of IOM in Azerbaijan updated and submitted the updated version of the voluntary report with the involvement of various stakeholders in anticipation of the International Migration Review Forum 2022. The feeding information was consolidated from the sources and records of State Migration Service (SMS) and other related state agencies involved in migration issues, as well as from Public Council under SMS, some other civil society organizations which are indirectly involved in migration related issues and from academia and migrant community.
