ECOWAS DRR Plan of Action
- GCM Objective 2 - Minimize adverse drivers
In the last 20 years, due to their geography, the Sahel countries of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, have experienced drought occurrences with devastating population displacement
For low-lying coastal areas, such as those in Lagos, Nigeria or St Louis, Senegal, a rise in sea level or major erosion from flooding threatens infrastructure, might cause population displacement and socio-economic disruption.
Risks associated with climate change have serious direct and indirect impacts on lives and livelihoods in the form of increased number of injuries and deaths related to extreme heat, and cold weather events, outbreaks of epidemics, malnutrition, and food and water contamination, forced migration among others.
