[...] a régression du couvert végétal (ligneux et herbacé), sous l’effet conjugué des sécheresses chroniques et de la pression anthropique, a accentué la désertification et a été la cause principale de la disparition d’espèces forestières et biologiques, et de la réduction du potentiel pastoral provoquant ainsi un exode rural massif vers les grands centres urbains. TRANSLATION:

[...] the regression of plant cover (woody and herbaceous), under the combined effect of chronic droughts and human pressure, has accentuated desertification and has been the main cause of the disappearance of forest and biological species , and the reduction of the pastoral potential thus causing a massive rural exodus towards the large urban centres.
