Essential Principles of Ethical Recruitment

On 13 October, representatives from governments, international organizations and employers met in Geneva during the 6th thematic consultations of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM). The purpose of this moderated session was to share views on ethical recruitment in global labour mobility. Amb. Laura Thompson, Deputy Director General shares IOM's vision for achieving ethical recruitment, which involves identifying the challenges including the lack of controls at the international level. The International Recruitment Integrity System (IRIS) is one tool to overcome these challenges, as it will eventually ensure that companies are committed to ethical principles such as the 'employer pays' principle.
