Supporting Member States and stakeholders in implementing the GCM

The UN Network on Migration is leveraging the technical expertise of UN partners and stakeholders globally and drawing from the experiences of governments around the world to support Member States and stakeholders’ efforts to integrate the GCM in planning processes. The aim of these efforts is to strengthen whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches for implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) through the development of GCM national implementation plans or other mainstreaming efforts. This work is central to the capacity building mechanism, called for in the Compact and reiterated in the Progress Declaration.

Type of support available

Recognizing there is no one-size-fits all approach to implementing the GCM, guidance has been developed under the leadership of IOM, OHCHR, and UNDP to advance GCM implementation in accordance with national priorities and aligned with existing international obligations. The guidance takes the form of a guide and a booklet that can be used to support Member States to develop or update migration planning, or to integrate GCM into other processes, for example in the development of a national development plan. Some limited technical assistance is available to support the operationalization of the guidance. Click on the buttons below to download the guidance, submit a request for further information, or access the interactive tool.
