TENTATIVE DEADLINE OF IMPLEMENTATION:

Niger is situated on the main migratory crossroad between West, Central Africa and North Africa and is increasingly impacted by the insecurity and instability within its own borders as well as from neighboring countries. These factors, as well as climate change and membership of the ECOWAS Free Movement Protocol contribute to significant migration and internal displacement flows. Its strategic geographic position makes it a country of departure, transit, and return.

As a GCM “Champion Country” for the implementation of the Global Compact, the pledging initiatives undertaken by the government of Niger will further shape the various actions/initiatives of the government towards achieving the implementation objectives of the global compact as well as its national migration policy. These will go a long way to address the various migration governance challenges facing the country.
