Strengthening Efforts to Provide Accurate and Timely Information at all Stages of Migration

TENTATIVE DEADLINE OF IMPLEMENTATION:
According to a recent survey, 50 percent of aspiring Bangladeshi labor migrants are ignorant of the information and support services for safer migration that are available from the government or NGOs. A further concern is that middlemen exploit 92% of aspirant labor migrants, with 51 percent of them being defrauded or abused. In accordance with the third objective of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) which is to Provide accurate and timely information at all stages of migration, IID developed and released an award-winning app titled 'Bibhui' (Migration) that provides a feasible solution to most conventional migration-related problems, particularly allowing aspirant migrants to know all of the decision-making aspects of labour migration from planning to go abroad to staying in an abroad and safely returning home again. Following the development of the app, IID in collaboration with its youth-led organization, youth for policy visited several TTCs across Bangladesh aiming to promote and teach the usage of the app among the trainees who are aspiring to go to middle east countries in search of work. Moreover, utilizing the popularity of Facebook in Bangladesh, IID created a Facebook page and a group “ Probasher Jonno Probashi (Migrants for Migrants)” and “ প্রবাসী প্রথম (Migrants First)” respectively to reach as many labour migrants as possible with accurate information. In the next year, IID and Youth for Policy pledge to strengthen efforts to provide, make available and disseminate accurate, timely, accessible, and transparent information on migration-related aspects to at least 5 lac Bangladeshi labour migrants at all stages of migration.
