PLEDGING INITIATIVE

Support to implementation of regional migration policies in the Horn of Africa

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has the mandate to facilitate safe, orderly and regular migration in the Horn of Africa. German Development Cooperation commits to pursue its cooperation with IGAD in the following areas: (1) harmonising and implementing migration policies across the Horn of Africa, (2) promoting cross-border cooperation to improve basic services for mobile populations and (3) fostering regional learning and migration data.

Germany also provides substantial financial support to the Regional Migration Fund (RMF). The RMF aims to improve living conditions, create economic opportunities and strengthen social cohesion of migrants and host communities in the Horn of Africa region by mobilising the economic potential of border areas along major migration routes.
