Objectives

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and/or the UN Network on Migration

  • Discuss ideas for establishing or strengthening partnerships with stakeholders on GCM implementation

  • Strengthen cohesion of UN partners in UNCT who are working on migration and create synergies amongst existing working groups and initiatives

  • Identify joint programming ideas for the implementation of the Cooperation Framework

  • Strengthen joint UNCT analysis of the migration landscape in-country to better prepare for the next update of the CCA

Agreed actions

  • Hold a UNCT retreat to further deep dive and conceptualize a workplan for mixed movement coordination in Egypt.

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of the socio-economic conditions and tensions specific to the Egyptian context, especially relating to the needs of the most vulnerable groups.

  • Engage civil society and other stakeholders to ensure successful advocacy by facilitating meaningful exchanges of views as a clear priority for migration.

  • Seek engagement of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and identify areas for “common pledges” based on the pledges made for the Global Compact for Refugees and the Global Refugee Forum.

  • Define an advocacy mandate and prioritize key objectives to strengthen joint advocacy efforts through existing coordination platforms/working groups.

  • Work towards improving the availability of data concerning people on the move by conducting a mapping of available data in-country and ensuring continuous sharing amongst different agencies/stakeholders.
