Post-doctoral researcher in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Iceland. With extensive fieldwork experience in The Gambia, Chile, Morocco, Haiti, RD Congo, Turkey, Romania, and Spain, he does research in migration, transnationalism, (im)mobilities, humanitarianism, and informality. He has been the main editor of the journal Perifèria (2018–2021), and his work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals such as Social Anthropology (2019), Mobilities (2019), Migration Letters (2021), and Social Inclusion (2021).

I am a doctoral researcher at the Research Training Group “The Dynamics of Demography, Democratic Processes and Public Policy” (DYNAMICS), which is jointly organized by the Humboldt University Berlin and the Hertie School. I am also a research associate at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM), which is part of the Humboldt University Berlin.

My main interests are in immigration, the welfare state, and mixed methods.

For my dissertation, which is supervised by Anke Hassel, I analyze the experiences of refugees with Germany’s welfare state bureaucracy. I focus on the administrative burdens refugees face when navigating the welfare system in their destination country, how welfare bureaucracies adapt to immigration, and how to approach these questions using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

For my work at BIM, I focus more on the role of public opinion in how the welfare state addresses immigration. I conduct quantitative research on determinants of welfare chauvinism as part of a project called Migration and the Welfare State.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in sociology at New York University and my master’s degree in public policy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Sociologist. He is specialised in housing/home studies. Post-doc Research Fellow at the University of Genoa (Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione), and coordinator of the MOBS Research group (M.U.R./PRIN - Prot. 2020TELSM8). Member of the "Laboratorio di Sociologia Visuale" of the University of Genoa. He has a Ph.D in Social Sciences (curriculum: Migration and Intercultural Processes) gained at the University of Genoa. As a researcher he's keen on ethnographical approach, biographical and participative methods.

I am a researcher, consultant, lecturer, and project manager with a particular focus on racism, white supremacy and the political economies of African migration. My work in South Africa and beyond has a strong emphasis on racial and social justice. In particular, I focus on the systematic curtailment of migrants’ rights in practice, policy and law; the racialisation of migrants and its effects, as well on hostility and recurrent violence against those considered ‘illegal’ foreigners.
