Denmark commits to a significant increase of funds to fragile regions and its neighbors to an expected level of more than EUR 1 billion in 2025

TENTATIVE DEADLINE OF IMPLEMENTATION:
In 2021, Denmark launched a new strategy for Development Cooperation titled “The World We Share”. A key part of the strategy is to prevent and address irregular migration. In order to walk the talk and back up the political vision, Denmark commits to significantly increase support to fragile regions and their neighbors by EUR 470 million by 2025 compared to 2020-levels. By 2025, the total Danish funding to fragile states and regions of origin is expected to amount to more than EUR 1 billion. Most of the funds will be allocated to Africa and along migratory routes and include engagements focusing on preventing and addressing irregular migration along the migratory routes. The Danish government believes this increase is necessary in order to provide better help to more people where it is most difficult and where the needs are greatest.
