Fighting Trafficking in Human Beings

TENTATIVE DEADLINE OF IMPLEMENTATION:
The EU Institutions are committed to stepping up efforts to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings on the basis of a new Strategy on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings for 2021-2025. The four key priorities are reducing the demand that fosters trafficking; breaking the criminal model of traffickers to halt victims’ exploitation online and offline; protecting, supporting and empowering victims and cooperating with partners countries of origin and transit, and international organisations internationally.

These priorities also apply in the context of the crisis in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the aggression, the EU has acted very promptly. We have presented recently a Common Anti-trafficking Plan under the lead of the EU Anti-trafficking Coordinator with measures that aim to achieve five main objectives: strengthening awareness raising on the risks of trafficking in human beings; reinforcing prevention; enhancing the law enforcement and judicial response; improving the early identification, support and protection of victims; and addressing the risks of trafficking in human beings in non-EU countries, especially Ukraine and Moldova.
