PLEDGING INITIATIVE

USD 50,000 contribution to the Migration Multi-Purpose Trust Fund

As a GCM Champion Country, the Philippines continues to contribute to the Migration MPTF noting the clear alignment between the Third Pillar of the Philippine Foreign Policy and the GCM, for which Migration MPTF provides capacity building. The Philippines is a member of the inaugural Steering Committee, ending the term on the Committee in June 2022.

The first pilot projects approved for funding by the Steering Committee included the one submitted by the Philippines UN Country Team, called the Bridging Recruitment to Reintegration in Migration Governance (BRIDGE) Program, with an approved budget of USD 1,500,000. The Philippine submission was reviewed by the Fund Management Unit (FMU) as the most complete, and ready for implementation, receiving high marks from the Steering Committee, which approved the pilot project by consensus. The pilot project will be presented by the FMU of the MPTF as a positive outcome during the IMRF, and a tool for fundraising.

The MPTF has provided the Philippines the platform to demonstrate its commitment to the 360 degree migration governance cycle. Announcing a contribution to this pooled fund mechanism, beyond the commitment already made through the International Commitment Fund, would be a good projection for the country’s firm commitment to intergovernmental implementation of sound migration governance. The additional voluntary contribution of USD 50,000 will be separate from the USD 25,000 approved under the 2021 International Commitment Fund (ICF).
